 As an Oracle Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the operability of numerous Oracle databases while working closely with internal clients such as business analysts, systems programmers, and application developers to define and resolve information flow and content issues. In this position, the successful candidate will work with VLDB's (multiple terabyte) in high availability, high volume transaction processing (OLTP) and reporting environments on various platforms including AIX, Linux, and Solaris.  Additional responsibilities include analyzing existing database applications for performance tuning, alerting & monitoring, working with application developers to integrate efforts with relational databases, participate in team or company projects as required, maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of existing best practices in database administration, design, and implementation, capacity planning and provides on-site support.

Job Responsibilities

  • Proactively monitor and manage multiple databases of varying complexity. Trouble shooting
  • Provide expert level troubleshooting to quickly identify and resolve database related incidents across a wide array of technologies and platforms
  • Participate in root cause analysis and problem resolution triage sessions
  • Makes technical decisions during high priority incidents focused on impact remediation and communicates clearly to call participants and leadership
  • Perform updates/changes during maintenance windows
  • Understand current capacity issues and the capacity planning processes
  • Work with team to review change requests
  • Participate in software deployments
  • Assimilate organizational objectives into operational action plans Change Management
  • Support a rigorous change control process including creating, reviewing, and implementing change records for database activities Vendor Management
  • Engage and escalate issues with database vendor(s) related to incident management Problem Management
  • Support a rigorous problem management process including problem creation and review database activities Other Duties as Assigned
  • Participate in special projects representing database operations on new implementations or troubleshooting deep dives
  • Identify opportunities for automation of manual tasks Job Requirements

Technical Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • At least 3+ years’ experience working as an Oracle DBA in an enterprise environment
  • In-depth knowledge of Goldengate replication
  • Experience with backup and restore using RMAN
  • Knowledge and experience with database capacity planning
  • Deep understanding or experience supporting databases on Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) or Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) configurations
  • Hands-on experience working with Oracle 11g thru 19c.  Knowledge of Oracle 9i and 10g is a plus
  • Experience with Oracle OEM and Quest Fog light for database monitoring, and problem diagnosis
  • Knowledge of other database platforms (DB2 SQL Server, Open Source, etc.) are a plus, but not required.
  • Experience monitoring and analysis of performance metrics and allocation of database resources to achieve optimum database performance
  • Familiarity with fail-over testing and participation in DR exercises Soft Skills

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical employees

Scope of Job

  • Primary responsibilities include proactive monitoring, incident response/troubleshooting, and break/fix engineering


  • Possess a high degree of professionalism and tact during stressful circumstances
  • Person in this position requires minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work with others in a team environment while enhancing a positive atmosphere Competencies
  • Knowledge and experience with database management and monitoring tools
  • In-depth knowledge of Data Guard and Active Data Guard
  • Experience with backup and restore techniques for medium to very large databases
  • Experience with database performance tuning, problem diagnosis and resolution, shell scripting, and PL/SQL development
  • Expertise with AWR and ADDM analysis
  • Query performance analysis and tuning is required
  • Experience with at least one of Oracle RAC, Oracle ODA and Exadata
  • Ability to document standard operational procedures
  • Possess ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

License & Certification

  • Oracle OCP certification is a plus

  • Fluent in English.  Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
